Panaitan
Panaitan Island, part of Ujung Kulon National Park, is a large claw shaped nature reserve that sits by itself in open seas about 6 miles off the south western tip of West Java. Its hills are covered with pristine forest that hold abundant wildlife of deer, boar, monkey, bulls, monitor lizards, black leopard, python, crocodiles and a wide variety of bird life. This stunningly beautiful tropical island is known for its amazing unspoilt natural beauty along with great fishing, hiking and wildlife.
It is also a world renowned surf Mecca. It includes seven excellent surf spots including the legendary One Palm Point and Apocalypse. There is literally nothing between you and thousands of miles of open sea.
It is less well known for its diving, but some of the spots are actually among the very best in the whole of Indonesia, such as the Tugboat Wreck off its Western tip, and Karang Jajar off its southern tip – and there is plenty more to be explored.
